How to Install a Car Starter: Before replacing the starter, document the location of every wire and electrical connection on the starter and solenoid for reinstallation after the replacement. This will avoid confusion during the installation process.

1. Turn off the ignition and detach the negative battery cable.
2. Jack up the vehicle on firm, level ground if necessary.
3. Locate the starter and identify the starter solenoid attached to it.
4. Disconnect the wiring to the solenoid.
5. Remove the starter retaining bolts and then the starter.
6. Compare the new starter to the old one and slide it into place.
7. Insert the starter retaining bolts in the same mounting location and secure them tightly.
8. Reconnect the wiring to the starter solenoid.
9. Reconnect the battery and attempt to start the vehicle.
10. Listen for any unusual sounds as you start the vehicle.
